Prescription Disposal on EAFB 9/29

Ellsworth Air Force Base

Prescription disposal Sept. 29

Ellsworth’s pharmacy and the 28th Security Forces Squadron are participating in National Take-Back Day, during which Airmen and their families may anonymously drop off expired, unused or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs at the base commissary from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 29.

The day will give Airmen and their families the opportunity to protect the
mselves from accidentally taking pharmaceuticals that aren’t for a current episode of care. Disposing of excess prescription drugs will also prevent children from either experimenting with them or mistaking them for candy.

According to Ellsworth’s Drug Demand Reduction Program, intentional misuse of prescription medications is the fastest-growing drug abuse problem in the United States. The 28th SFS, Ellsworth Drug Demand Reduction Program, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Ellsworth pharmacy encourage individuals to dispose of medicines properly to help prevent prescription theft and abuse.

For more information, please call Shelley Satterlee, 28th Medical Operations Squadron Drug Demand Reduction Program Manager, at (605) 385-3231.
