"Outdoor recesses are cancelled today at Rapid Valley Elementary School after a school security camera captured a mountain lion walking across the school yard about 5:30 a.m.


Game, Fish and Parks officials are on the scene and looking for what appears to be a small mountain lion, according to Rapid City Area Schools superintendent Tim Mitchell.

The school district used its Synervoice notification system to contact parents around 10 a.m. The message suggests that parents whose children walk home from school should consider arranging for a ride."

North Western Warehouse/Allied Van Lines is accepting donations of non-perishable foods, canned goods, blankets, clothing, household furniture, and financial contributions for victims of Hurricane Sandy. A North Western Warehouse long haul driver who lost everything in Hurricane Katrina has volunteered to drive a semi to the East Coast with all of the donations.

Donations can be dropped off or mailed to North Western Warehouse at 417 Pine Street from Monday 11/5/12 until Friday 11/16/12.

In addition, donations can be taken to the Allied Van Lines trailer at the LaCrosse St. Wal-Mart on Friday 11/2 or at the new store located off of 5th Street Saturday 11/3.

The library would like someone on Mondays from 8:15-10:30am (or anytime in between).

One of the 1st grade rooms would like someone to help with reading and math activities for individual and small groups of students. They need someone from 9:20-10:40am any d
ay, Monday-Friday.

I must stress that consistency is the key for these two volunteer positions, and regular attendance is important for both the teachers and the students.
